Goodgirl xo Hair care - KallaBeauty

Yay! Our new category, Goodgirl xo Haircare is live. I am so excited to see our product range grow. We are constantly exploring plastic free alternatives to add to our store. Each product is being tested by ourselves to make sure we love them as much as we love our customers.

As I wrote in the beginning of lockdown, I wanted to find the perfect solid Shampoo and Conditioner bar for my hair. I am sick of the bottled shampoo and there are plenty of local produced alternatives out there.

Shampoo and conditioner bars are an essential part for a plasticfree bathroom, so I wanted to find the perfect bars for all our Goodgirls out there.

So please let me indroduce you to KallaBeauty. The Shampoo and Conditioner Bars handcrafted in New Zealand.

Martina, the heart behind the gorgeous handmade bars agreed to do an interview with Goodgirl xo.

How did you get your idea or concept for the business?

I started my journey towards Zero Waste about 4 years ago and made already lots of changes in our family. I was invited by a friend to join a workshop on making shampoo bars. I loved the whole process of creating something useful that I started offering my new skills to friends and it grew from there.

What products do you manufacture?

We started with shampoo and conditioner bars and now added dry shampoo, soaps, lotion bars, shower steamers and bath bombs to the range.

How long did it take to find the perfect recipe for your products?

It usually takes several months with lots of trial and error to find the perfect recipes. I have a group of friends who are patiently testing new products and ideas for me and give me valuable feedback to create the perfect product.

How do you advertise your business?

I started with word of mouth and advertising on local facebook pages. I then added markets and now also use facebook advertising for targeted adds.

What’s your company’s goals?

Our goal is to provide affordable and sustainable products to New Zealanders.

What is unique about your business?

We are a small business and we support other small businesses. All our ingredients and packaging (apart from the dry shampoo packaging) are sourced from New Zealand companies. This way we make sure to support local jobs. Plus all our products are made in small batches by hand to guarantee the quality we expect from our products.

Top Tips

  1. Let your bars dry out completely after use
  2. Cut bar in half and alternate between both of them
  3. Store bars on soap racks or towels
  4. Use an organza bag for leftover pieces
  5. Use a makeup brush to apply your dry shampoo
