Overdone product packaging

Overdone product packaging

Overwrapping, underfilled and attempts to make products look bigger. Companies are extremely creative when trying to fool their customers.

Overdone packaging is both a pocketbook issue and an environmental issue. Visual tricks make you think you are getting more for your money than you are. And if you are into environmentally friendly alternatives, then the fewer natural resources we use to manufacture packaging the better.

There is a fine line between what is allowed and what is not. Product and packaging designers get paid a lot to find solutions at the maximum level without breaking the law. However, this may be correct according to the guidelines, but it is not in the eyes of many consumers.

In a country like New Zealand many products travel a long way, due to overseas manufacturing. And this with 50% air in them. Its not only the consumer that is paying for nothing it also adding up in emission that is completely unnecessary.

If over-sized packaging containing under-sized products is an issue for you, take the time to mention it to the store manager or find the customer feedback address for the manufacturer or retailer and send an email to them. The more customers stop responding to big packages and start demanding small ones, thing will change.
